Product Description

The 1928 $20 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle MS60 was one of the last gold coins struck for U.S. circulation. Many seasoned coin collectors are privy to this coin based on the rich history and design elements of its time.

This coin was originally struck in high-relief which posed a difficult and slow minting process, leaving the older versions of higher value. This was changed to a flat-relief process the same year that motto “In God We Trust” was coined into the design. The only year that is available with and without this motto is the 1908 coin. The Saint-Gaudens double eagle is a twenty-dollar gold coin, or double eagle, produced by the United States Mint from 1907 to 1933. The coin is named after its designer, the sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, who designed the obverse and reverse. It is considered by many to be the most beautiful of U.S. coins.
